Tips to Tidying Your Bathroom the KonMari Way
Are you finding yourself drowning in a pile of clutter in your bathroom or kitchen? Then it’s time to take out the trash bags and ask yourself, “does this spark joy?” Marie Kondo is the queen of organization and her Netflix series “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” is the ultimate binge worthy television show that has everyone feeling the need to purge. Here are our top tips to tidying up your bathroom the KonMari way.
- Keep the Joy. We’re not telling you to get rid of all your bathroom decorations; we suggest keeping the ones that only bring you joy. Display your favorite items with an open shelf concept. Our favorite bathroom décor items include plants, framed photos, and small décor pieces that can act as accents pieces. If you have bathroom decorations that don’t spark joy, toss them! Just remember to stay organized and avoid the clutter.
- Keep it Out of the Bath or Shower. Tired of cleaning up the grime and soap scum left by your bottles of shampoo and body wash? Marie Kondo has a solution. There is no reason to keep soaps and shampoos out when they are not being used. Organize your everyday bath or shower items in their own box and store them away in a cupboard when you’re done showering for the day. In addition to eliminating the clutter, this also helps eliminate the slime buildup in the shower or tub.
- Invest in Flat and Vertical Storage. When we store everything stacked on top of each other it is hard to see everything we have, especially if it is just thrown into a bathroom drawer. Because bathroom products come in many shapes and sizes, there’s no universal storage option that will work. Consider flat storage containers for items such as hair ties, bobby pins, lip balms and nail polishes. Organize shampoos, soaps, body washes and any sprays in vertical storage units. If you share a bathroom with your significant other, family member or roommate, invest in drawer dividers to eliminate bathroom product confusion. When everything has a home, it is easier to see what you have and eliminates counter clutter.
