Classic Finish: Once and Always Chrome
A very common question I get from clients during the bath remodel process is: what finish should I choose for my fixtures? While each situation is different, this I know: chrome never goes out of style. It remains an exceptional, timeless choice for a design that’s clean, bright and tailored.
Chrome is one of the more common elements on the earth, and was an important pigment long before it became a faucet finish. In the early 1920’s, someone figured out how to electroplate base metals with chrome, and the chrome faucet made its debut. Its corrosion resistance and luster made it an instant hit and it’s been the most common faucet finish sold ever since.
Like most things, you get what you pay for with chrome. A high quality, well crafted, commercial grade chrome vanity or shower fixture will be beautiful and stylish for years and years. These days, chrome competes for attention against brushed nickel, oil-rubbed bronze and others. Even polished and antique brass are making a comeback. What’s got staying power? I think it’s chrome, and that will remain my go-to finish.
