10 Simple ways to make a small bathroom feel bigger – Tip #7

Keep everything the same color tone/value as much as you can in a small bathroom.  For example, don’t have dark walls and a light floor, or vice versa.  This chops up the space and makes it seem even smaller!  If you do want some contrast, as most of us do, limit it to something that is more of an object in the space – like the low cabinet in the photo above.  That object will then stand out as a feature, while everything else will recede and blend together in a backdrop.  Think of light fixtures, framed mirrors, towels and accessories as “objects” within your monochromatic backdrop.  When the walls and floor “recede”, the space expands!
